Our Sunday night Worship Gatherings are held in The Lab, 1819 N. Quaker Lane, Alexandria, VA 22302. They now follow a rhythm. For four weeks we delve deeply into a topic or practice. A Wednesday night small group follows the same pattern, but in a conversational, intimate discussion format. This one is experimental, geared specifically towards people in the arts (mainly in their 20's and 30'...s). If this intrigues you, please contact Jay Smith; they meet at The Convergence Residence, Wednesdays from 7:30-9:30 PM.
First Sunday: Instructional Service. This is a time of teaching including scripture reading, historical information and relevant contextual issues and philosophical arguments.
Second Sunday: Testimonial Service. The experience and questions of the congregation is explored through individual sharing, group discussion and interactive and creative methods.
Third Sunday: Meditative Service. Time is devoted to deep prayer and contemplation on the topic of the month, scripture and prayer concerns of our community. This service culminates in sharing Communion together.
Fourth Sunday: Call to Action Service. Explore the ways that the truths we have discovered and affirmed play out in our lives and community.
Our Blog
We affirm the practice of “whole life worship” meaning that worship can be a constant state of being. We come together on Sunday nights to practice our faith and learn rehearse methods of living as Christ followers. To keep growing throughout the week, we have established a daily prayer journal and blog.
Each day you will find a meditation on the blog. These pose questions for deeper reflection and a suggestion for prayer. Our hope is that we will continue to process what is explored on Sunday through out the week. We hope you will journal on your own and post comments on the blog.
At 5:00 pm on Sunday nights we meet in The Lab for worship, prayer and Bible study. As we grow this community of faith we believe it is important to take time to ask deep questions and listen for answers. Questions as fundamental as "why gather together for worship at all?" and "what does it mean to worship God in the first place?"
This group on Sunday nights is designed for people who are intentional about their faith and about the formation of the Convergence community on a larger scale. All are welcome to join us for this service, prayer time and fellowship after. In addition to the format above, people are encouraged to participate in planning through songs, poems, drama, drawings, etc. to share or create with the group. Childcare for infants and toddlers is not provided at this time, but children are loved, welcomed, and encouraged to attend the gathering with adults. Come as you are.
Where is This?
We are meeting in The Lab, 1819 N. Quaker Lane, Alexandria, VA 22302 (the building across from the sanctuary building). This is an intimate space which allows us more flexibility in worship as well as the opportunity to grow.
We partner with people who are vibrant contributors to our community to provide holistic resources to foster healthy, imaginative, empowered people and artists. Our classes are geared towards professional artists and beginners.
We are a resource to the person, the Creative. We provide the resource of space at accessible cost in a nurturing environment within which artists and arts organizations can build and grow.
